ITS THE LONDON DERBY AGAIN,ARSENAL VS CHELSEA LOCK HORNS AGAIN AT EMIRATES STADIUM TOMORROW.............LETS DIG INTO THEIR RIVARLY.......

Arsenal F.C.–Chelsea F.C. rivalry

Background

While they never considered each other primary rivals, as two of the top clubs in London there has always been strong needle between the fans dating back to the 1930s. Matches between them would often attract large attendances. The Arsenal and Chelsea rivalry has been more recently considered an important derby, after Chelsea's rise to the top class of the Premier League in 2000s, when the two started to compete constantly for the English championship. According to an internet survey of fans in December 2003, the Arsenal fans who responded to the survey said that they considered Chelsea as their third rival, after Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.[1] Those Chelsea fans who responded to the survey said that they considered Arsenal as their main rival, however Tottenham and Fulham are their more traditional rivals.[1] In a 2009 survey by the Football Fans Census, Arsenal fans named Chelsea as the club they disliked the most, ahead of their traditional rivals Tottenham. Chelsea fans named Arsenal as their second most-disliked club, behind Liverpool.[2]

History

The first league meeting between the two teams took place on November 9, 1907 at Stamford Bridge. This was the first Football League First Division game played between two London clubs and drew a then First Division record crowd of 65,000. A match between the clubs at Stamford Bridge in 1935 drew a crowd of 82,905, the second highest recorded attendance for an English league match. They met in two close contested FA Cup semi-finals in the 1950s, with Arsenal winning both times. In the 1960s Chelsea dominated the tie with 14 wins, two draws and just 2 losses during the decade.[3]
More recently the clubs have contested two major finals, the 2002 FA Cup Final, which Arsenal won 2–0, and the 2007 Football League Cup Final, which Chelsea won 2–1. The two teams have also met in the UEFA Champions League in the quarter-finals in 2003–04 drawing 1–1 at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea winning 2–1 at Highbury to go through to the semi-finals.
In 2006 the transfer of Ashley Cole from Arsenal to Chelsea further stoked the rivalry, as Cole had been caught meeting Chelsea officials months before.[4]
The 2007 Carling Cup final was one of the most noted incidents. The game was marred by a fracas involving Frank Lampard, Cesc Fàbregas and others that resulted in yellow cards for the two and three other players sent off, the supposed wrongful dismissal of Emmanuel Adebayor and incidents of Chelsea fans throwing celery at Arsenal players. This led the media to dub it the "Snarling Cup final".
On December 27, 2010, Chelsea came into the Emirates having beaten Arsenal 5 times in a row by a goal differencial of 13–2. Arsenal were victorious upon the final whistle however by a score of 3–1.
On 29 October 2011, another thrilling and fantastic game was played at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal won 5–3 with Robin Van Persie scoring a hat-trick and André Santos and Theo Walcott scoring one goal each. Frank Lampard, John Terry and Juan Mata scored the goals for Chelsea[5]
Overall, Arsenal have won the more games in history, having won 70 times to Chelsea's 54, with 52 draws (as of 21 April 2012).[6] Arsenal's record win was a 5–1 victory in a First Division match at Stamford Bridge on November 29, 1930. Chelsea's record win was a 5–0 victory at Highbury in the League Cup on November 11, 1998.
Former Chelsea Striker Didier Drogba holds the mark for the most derby goals with 13.

The winners and losers of the summer transfer window

For the major European leagues, there won't be any more transfers until January, so coaches are stuck with their lots - for better or worse.

The European summer transfer window closed on 31st august 2012, bookending a tumultuous silly season that was slow in warming up but roiled feverishly in its final weeks.

For your arguing pleasure, we break down its biggest winners and losers:

Tottenham Hotspur

As new manager Andre Villas-Boas sets about making amends for his failure at Chelsea, his tenure at Spurs has gotten off a strong start with a highly successful transfer window. Though the club ultimately lost its long-running battle to hold onto Luka Modric when he left for Real Madrid in a $52 million move, it invested the money deftly. AVB spun the Modric money and that made off the sales of Vedran Corluka, Niko Krancjar, Steven Pienaar and Rafael van der Vaart, all of whom commanded good fees, into the acquisition of playmakers Gylfi Sigurdsson and Moussa Dembélé, defender Jan Vertonghen and striker Emmanuel Adebayor, whose loan was made permanent. And with time ticking down on the transfer window, Spurs snapped up underrated France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Fulham’s U.S. forward Clint Dempsey. On balance, Spurs is a much strengthened side while somehow achieving a small surplus in their transfer balance for this window.

Manchester United

In spite of much empirical evidence to the contrary, Paul Scholes can’t play forever. In buying Shinji Kagawa off Borussia Dortmund, United has finally addressed his succession as its playmaking midfielder, since it’s obvious by this point that Anderson isn’t the answer and Tom Cleverley has maturing to do. At a $27 million transfer fee, the Red Devils got good value for money. And for that one move alone, United is a transfer winner. But it managed to snag one Robin van Persie from Arsenal too, instantly turning a strong crop of forwards into a legendary one. Even better news? United unloaded Dimitar Berbatov – the man who can only score in fives – on Fulham.

Chelsea

Roberto Di Matteo is hell-bent on abandoning the defense-first tactics that won him last year’s Champions League and play the more imaginative style he prefers. To that effect, Eden Hazard and Oscar were brought in for a reported $50 million and $40 million, respectively, to help Juan Mata distribute the ball and ignite the offense. But what makes Chelsea’s transfer window a real success is the pickups of wingers Marko Marin and Victor Moses and right back Cesar Azpilicueta for a combined $36 million.

Queens Park Rangers

In a string of savvy pickups, QPR nabbed Junior Hoilett, Ryan Nelsen, Andy Johnson, Robert Green, Jose Bosingwa and Julio Cesar on free transfers. It loaned Fabio from United and signed Samba Diakite, Ji-Sung Park and Stephane M’Bia – all three of whom are candidates for Steal of the Year. And it lost nobody more noteworthy than Paddy Kenny, who was obsolete following the arrival of Green and Cesar.

Inter Milan

Under pressure to cut costs, Inter managed to dump some of its biggest earners in Lucio, Diego Forlan and Cesar on free transfers. Then it flipped Giampaolo Pazzini to AC Milan in a trade that bagged Antonio Cassano and, somehow, an extra $9 million. It got good fees for Luc Castaignos and Goran Pandev and managed to pick up Rodrigo Palacio, Walter Gargano, Alvaro Pereira, Freddy Guarin, Samir Handanovic and Gaby Mudingayi, all well-above average Serie A players. Now, with long-overdue renewal out of the way, Andrea Stramaccioni has something to work with.

Paris Saint-Germain

Continuing its oil-infused spending spree, PSG happily splashed a jaw-dropping $187.5 million on Thiago Silva, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Marco Verratti and Lucas Moura. Need much more be said? Word is the Parisians will sign Ajax right back Gregory van der Wiel before the French transfer window shuts early next week, too.

Swansea City

When Liverpool and Manchester City came lusting after Joe Allen and Scott Sinclair, two of last season’s sensations on a sensational Swansea’s sensation debut season, new manager Michael Laudrup wisely sold high and used the money to reinvest it in Pablo Hernandez, Sung-Yong Ki, Michu, Chico and Jonathan de Guzman, buttressing his side while turning a profit in the process.

Losers

Arsenal

The Gunners’ transfer window, for once, started off swimmingly, quickly picking up forwards Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski and midfielder Santi Cazorla for very reasonable total of $54 million in fees. And then van Persie left for Arsenal and Alex Song was sold to Barcelona, meaning that, once again, Arsenal will start the season off significantly weaker than it ended the last one.

Fulham

Midfielder Hugo Rodallega, striker Mladen Petric and midfielder Sascha Riether were all very nice free transfer pickups. But that about evened out with the end-of-contract departures of Andy Johnson, Danny Murphy and Pavel Pogrebnyak. But the subsequent sale of Dembélé and Dempsey robs Fulham of the two most decisive players in an offense that made them fun to watch last season. Berbatov, Fulham’s deadline pickup, is only a small consolation.

AC Milan

In a similar predicament as Inter, cross-town rival Milan had to downsize and rejuvenate its squad. Sulley Muntari, Riccardo Montolivo and Bojan Krkic are nice pickups – the former two free and the latter on loan. Pazzini is a nice signing, although not worth giving up Cassano and a surcharge. But all this is undone by the loss of Silva and Ibrahimovic. What’s more, with the retirement or departure of iconic veterans such as Alessandro Nesta, Pippo Inzaghi, Mark van Bommel, Clarence Seedorf, Gianluca Zambrotta and Gennaro Gattuso, Milan might face an identity crisis as it rebuilds.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER FOR JOHN TERRY ENDS..............................AMID RACISM CASE. HEARING TODAY.....................

Terry retires from England amid racism case September 24, 2012 -- Chelsea defender John Terry has retired from international football with England. Chelsea defender John Terry has retired from international football with England. STORY HIGHLIGHTS John Terry retires from international football Chelsea defender won 78 caps for England Decision comes on the eve of scheduled FA hearing Terry: "My position with national team untenable" Former England captain John Terry has announced his retirement from international football with immediate effect. The Chelsea defender, who won 78-caps for his country, was scheduled to attend an FA hearing on Monday for allegedly racially abusing QPR's Anton Ferdinand. Terry was cleared of the allegations by a London court in July. Terry, who lost the armband on two separate occasions for off-field incidents, says the FA has made his "position with the national team untenable". In a statement, he said: "I am today announcing my retirement from international football. I would like to thank the England managers who have selected me for my 78 caps. "I have had great pleasure in sharing that honor with all the players that I've played with. I would like to thank them, the fans and my family for their support and encouragement during my international career. "Representing and captaining my country is what I dreamed of as a boy and it has been a truly great honor. I have always given my all and it breaks my heart to make this decision. "I want to wish Roy Hodgson and the team every success for the future. "I am making this statement today in advance of the hearing of the FA disciplinary charge because I feel the FA, in pursuing charges against me where I have already been cleared in a court of law, have made my position with the national team untenable. "I now look forward to playing for Chelsea FC, and challenging for domestic and European honors, and I want to thank the fans and the club for their continued support." Terry made his England debut in 2003 against Serbia and Montenegro and was made permanent captain in 2008. But his tenure as captain came to an ignominious end in February 2010 after he was revealed as the sportsman behind a gagging injunction involving his private life. A court order had previously been in place, covering an alleged relationship between married Terry and French model Vanessa Perroncel -- a former partner of teammate Wayne Bridge. Terry was restored as captain by Fabio Capello on March 19 2011 before losing the armband once again following the alleged incident with Ferdinand during Chelsea's game at Queens Park Rangers last October. Terry's final game for England was earlier this month when he played in the 5-0 win over Moldova in Chisinau.

WILSHERE BACK IN FULL TRAINING WILL HE REGAIN HIS PREVIOUS FORM..............?..................ONLY TIME WILL TELL.

At last! Wilshere returns to full Arsenal training after 14 months on sidelines

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has handed Arsene Wenger a massive boost by joining his team-mates for training.
The 20-year-old has been plagued by ankle, foot and knee problems and has not played since July 2011.
But, as revealed by Sportsmail earlier this week, the England player has now stepped up his recovery by taking a full part in training.

Wilshere's agent tweeted: 'Delighted to say that Jack Wilshere was back in full 1st team training today.
'Understandably he is a very excited young man today.'
Wenger told the official Arsenal website: 'We are so pleased that Jack is back in full training. It’s been 14 months and that’s a long time for someone at his age. It’s an eternity, but it’s great news.
'We have to give him a few training sessions to see how he copes and responds to it. That’s the delicate, sensitive stage - to choose when to bring him in and out. We’ll have to handle that day-by-day.
'We also have Emmanuel Frimpong who has returned to full training this week, which is great news as well. Emmanuel has also been out a long time, but is progressing well.'
Wenger could now play Wilshere in either a specially arranged, training ground friendly or the Gunners Under 21 side's fixture against West Bromwich on October 1 or Reading seven days later as the club look to give him much-needed game time.

Despite Wilshere's promising progress, his manager will continue to take a cautious approach towards the return of his influential midfielder.
The youngster has been pencilled in for a return to first-team action towards the end of next month and the club seem determined to resist any temptation to rush Wilshere back before then.
Even though Alex Song left for Barcelona, Wenger still has an abundance of central-midfield options with Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta, Abou Diaby, Aaron Ramsey and Francis Coquelin all vying for first-team starts.

The club's once lengthy injury list is now starting to clear up, with Tomas Rosicky, Emmanuel Frimpong and Bacary Sagna – in addition to Wilshere – all close to first-team returns.
Frimpong, who has been sidelined since February with a cruciate ligament injury sustained while on loan to Wolves, has also returned to training.

5 GOALS DRAMA AT BERNABEU..................

Ronaldo scores scores a decisive goal in their 1st group stage encounter

Madrid had much the better of the first half, and City had goalkeeper Joe Hart to thank for preserving the deadlock until half-time.
With the hosts continuing to dominate but struggling to find a way through, it was City who opened the scoring, with Edin Dzeko firing home on 68 minutes after Yaya Toure broke away on the counter.
Madrid levelled soon afterwards with a deflected Marcelo strike, but City looked to have won it when Aleksandar Kolarov's free-kick found its way into the corner of the net on 85 minutes.
Madrid would not be beaten, though, and Karim Benzema equalised almost immediately before Cristiano Ronaldo fired home a 90th-minute winner.
In Group D's other game, Borussia Dortmund required a late goal from Robert Lewandowski to secure a 1-0 win over Ajax.
It had appeared that the Bundesliga side would have to settle for a point at home to the group outsiders after Mats Hummels missed a second-half penalty, but Poland striker Lewandowski finally made the breakthrough in the 87th minute to secure a valuable victory.
Arsenal got their campaign off to a winning start with a 2-1 victory at Montpellier.
Arsenal fell behind to the French champions when Thomas Vermaelen brought down Younes Belhanda and the same player stepped up to score from the penalty spot. However, the Gunners hit back quickly, with first Lukas Podolski and then Gervinho scoring to see them into the lead.
Arsenal lived a charmed life in the second half, as Remy Cabella squandered a superb chance - shooting wide after robbing Abou Diaby on the edge of the box. Anthony Mounier found space behind the Arsenal back line but lacked the composure with his finish, while Cabella showed brilliant feet to dink a shot over stand-in goalkeeper Vito Mannone that thudded against the bar.
However, the best chance was passed up by Belhanda with ten minutes remaining. The ball found its way to the Montpellier forward's feet five yards from goal with only Mannone to beat. He set himself but somehow scuffed his shot straight at the Arsenal 'keeper.
The pressure on AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri increased as the Serie A giants were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Anderlecht.
Milan have made a poor start to the new season since allowing a number of big-name players to leave the club, and there was no sign of improvement against the Belgians, with the home fans booing their team's tentative performance.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, two of the stars to have departed the San Siro, were on target as Paris Saint-Germain eased to a 4-1 win over Dynamo Kiev.
Ibrahimovic fired home the opener from the penalty spot and Thiago Silva, making his debut, doubled their advantage. Alex then made it 3-0 and, while Miguel Veloso reduced the arrears late on, Javier Pastore completed the rout in injury time.
Malaga, plunged into financial turmoil in the summer, continued their remarkable start to the new season with a 3-0 win over Zenit St Petersburg at La Rosaleda.
Zenit signed Hulk and Axel Witsel to bolster their European hopes for the 2012-13 campaign, but the big-spenders found themselves a goal down inside three minutes when Isco scored a stunning opener.
Javier Saviola extended the hosts' advantage on ten minutes and, after Zenit missed a host of chances, Malaga wrapped up victory 14 minutes from time as Spain Under-21 international Isco scored another long-range effort.
Schalke secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Olympiakos.
Benedikt Howedes had headed home the opener shortly before half-time and, after Djamel Abdoun's equaliser, Netherlands striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar delivered the decisive goal.
Porto, the 2004 champions, claimed a 2-0 victory over Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb.
Midfielder Lucho Gonzalez put Porto into the lead four minutes before the break, and Belgium international Steven Defour put the result beyond doubt with a further goal in injury time.

Superclásico is the name used to describe the football match in Argentina between Buenos Aires rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate. It derives from the Spanish usage of "clásico" to mean derby, with the prefix "super" used as the two clubs are the most popular and successful clubs in Argentine football. According to some statistics, they commandeer more than 70% of all Argentine football fans between them,[1] with Boca claiming 41% and River 32%.
The Superclásico is known worldwide as one of the fiercest and most important derbies.[2] In April 2004, the English newspaper The Observer put the Superclásico at the top of their list of "50 sporting things you must do before you die", saying that "Derby day in Buenos Aires makes the Old Firm game look like a primary school kick-about."[3]

Origins and background

The two clubs both have origins in La Boca, the working class dockland area of Buenos Aires, with River being founded in 1901 and Boca in 1905. However, River moved to the affluent district of Núñez in the north of the city in 1925. Since then Boca Juniors has been known as the club of Argentina's working class or the people's club, with many Boca fans coming from the local Italian immigrant community. Boca fans are actually known as Xeneizes (Genoese).[4] By contrast, River Plate became known by the nickname, Los Millonarios (The Millionaires), with a supposedly upper-class support base.[2] Both clubs do though have supporters from all social classes.[4]
The first ever recorded Superclásico was a friendly played on August 2, 1908, when Boca prevailed 2–1. The first official match was played on August 24, 1913, with River winning 2–1.[5]

The Superclásico is particularly noted for the passion of the fans, with what the BBC describe as "a sea of colourful flowing banners, screams and roars, chanting, dancing and never-ending fireworks."[2] Both sets of supporters sing passionate chants aimed at their rivals, often based on popular Argentine rock band tunes. Each stadium, Boca's La Bombonera and River's El Monumental are known to bounce with the simultaneous jumping of the fans. At times the matches have been known to end in fights between the violent factions on both sides or with the police.[6]
Boca fans refer to River supporters as gallinas (chickens) claiming the lack of guts of River players. Despite the fact that their club traces back its roots to La Boca, River fans refer to their Boca rivals as los chanchitos (little pigs) because they claim their stadium, located in the less affluent La Boca area, smells most of the time,[2] as well as bosteros (manure collectors) a reference to the smell of a polluted river in La Boca.[4] Another infamous slur, coined in the late 1990s over remarks of Boca's forward Diego Latorre, is to brand Boca Juniors as "The Cabaret", due to the alleged aspiration of some players to steal the limelight.[7]
The rivalry between the two clubs can also affect players, particularly those who are transferred between the two clubs. Cataldo Spitale was the first to make the change, when he left Boca to sign for River in 1933. Oscar Ruggeri, who moved to River from Boca in 1985 said, "It's not easy I can tell you. One side looks on you as a traitor and the other doesn't really trust you. You need time to adapt and a lot of character to win people over." Some players have gone so far as to state that they would not play for the other club such as River's Uruguayan player Enzo Francescoli while Diego Maradona during his time playing for Argentinos Juniors, refused to even consider a move to El Monumental, stating that his dream was to play for Boca.[8]
Recently, on March 21 in the Clausura 2010 tournament, the two teams started playing in La Bombonera. At the 9' the match was suspended because of heavy rainfall in Buenos Aires. The pitch was practically flooded, but in spite of this, the referee, Héctor Baldassi, stated that the match could be played.[9] In the course of the match, the two teams were unable to keep possession, because the ball became repeatedly bogged down. The match restarted on Thursday, March 25, 2010 and was played with two halves of 41 minutes.[9] This was the first Superclásico suspended in history.[10]
June 26, 2011 will forever be an historical date for this match, because of the relegation of River Plate, event that will make the 2011–12 Argentine Primera División season the first that does not have any Superclásico matches.

Puerta 12 tragedy

On June 23, 1968, in El Monumental after a match between the two teams 71 fans were killed in a crush at gate 12 and 150 fans injured. The disaster was the worst football related incident in the history of Argentine football and the majority of the dead were teenagers and young adults. The average age of the victims was 19.
There are various claims as to what exactly happened that day. Some claim that the disaster happened after Boca Juniors fans threw burning River flags from the upper tiers of the stadium, causing a stampede of their own fans in the lower tier.[11]
Others claim that it happened after River fans arrived at the Boca section, causing the stampede of the visiting fans. Yet others claim that gate 12 was locked, or would not open at the time, and that the fans at the back did not hear the ones at the front telling them to stop coming in. William Kent, River's former president, claimed that the police were the culprits, as they began repressing Boca fans after they had thrown urine at them from the stands. Some witnesses claim that the turnstiles to the exit were blocked by a huge iron pole.[12]
After three years of investigation a government enquiry found no-one guilty, much to the disappointment of the families of the victims. Since the tragedy, the gates at El Monumental have been identified by letters instead of numbers.[13]
At the end of the 1968 season the 68 football clubs in the Argentine Football Association collected 100,000 pesos for the families of the deceased.
